Mike and I had a telephone conversation with Joe Hollis of mountaingardensherbs.com. Joe is an amateur ethnobotanist who lives on 4 acres of land in Western North Carolina and caters his Joe came of age during the Vietnam War. He spent the later part of the 1960s living in Borneo with the Peace Corp. His experiences with the river people brought him to seek peace and oneness with Gaia (mother earth). He felt that a major force of destruction, war, turmoil and suffering was due to an imbalance with civilization and Gaia. As such, he took up "refuge" in his Mountain Garden in NC back in 1973 and has been cultivating his Paradise Garden ever since.
This is the first episode in a series of interviews with folks who came of age in the turbulent 1960's. Stay Tuned to the next episode in this particular series when I interview Vietnam helicopter Pilot Mark "Pigpen" Garrison.
