WWI #52: The 2017 Predictions Show
Friday Jan 13, 2017
Friday Jan 13, 2017
This show was originally meant to be live of FB and we ran into yet another snag. Stay tuned for future video episodes which will most likely be on demand via YouTube.
This was a fun show! We made predicitions for 2017 in technology, science and celebrity deaths. Savanna royally screws up the advert at the start of the show (which I had to leave in) and Mike royally screws up a celebrity prediction - so, all in all it was probably the best show to date!
Questions? Comments. Perogatives! Please visit the site www.waitwhatif.com where you'll find bios, show archives, blogs, listener discounts to Onnit and much more!
Thank you SO much for listening and making 2016 so successful. I'm planning on adding much much more content for 2017 and looking forward to your imput!
Happy New Year ;)

WWI #51 Neuro Linguistic Programming - Science or Snake Oil?
Friday Dec 30, 2016
Friday Dec 30, 2016
This is an episode recorded earlier this summer and put on hold to be released during the busy holiday season! It's a long episode but that is because we had such a deep interesting discussion, I couldn't decide what to cut out and what to keep in - so I kept pretty much everything!
Phil Sampson joins us to discuss how Neuro Linguistic Programming changed his life. What is NLP? There is much debate as to whether it represents a true scientific exploration of cognition or whether it is a new age cult of cognitive behavioral therapy. Either way, Phil is an interesting guy with an interesting take on life and fitness and we go way back to our days of Brizilian Jui Jitsui training so it was an absolute pleasure to have him on.

This episode was recorded live from Mike and Maleah's bar Revival 1869 with Savanna Steele and show regular John Taylor (twistedpodcast.com/truecrimewriting.com). The bar room is in the midst of reconstruction in downtown Clayton, NC. It was discovered that the building was once the home of an old funeral parlor and perhaps the site of a murder in the previous century. Ever the skeptic, I figured we could record live from the location in the hopes that we would receive messages from the other side. No such luck. Although, after we packed up and left John, Mike and Maleah stayed and tried to make contact via Ouija board. We'll discuss their discoveries in a future episode.
We had a fun conversation about the possible origin of human consciousness and where it goes after we die. We also delve into the world of dreams and debate whether or not they are nonsensical drivel or the visual representation of cosmic messaging from other dimensions. Also, discussed: beenieweenies; denser; and nerve stimulation.

Carlos Pedraza is a journalist, writer and independent film maker uses his investigative skills coupled with his love of Star Trek to bring us the story of Axanar. Axanar is the brain child of a man named Alec Peters. According to Carlos's website axamonitor.com:
'Peters is a serial entrepreneur and winner of Ernst & Young’s 2004 Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law, and is a former collegiate volleyball coach. In 2013, Peters portrayed Garth of Izar in the fan series Star Trek: New Voyages and was to reprise the role in the planned feature-length Axanar, which he co-wrote and was set to produce, though he decided to re-cast the role with a younger, to-be-named actor. Peters wrote the original story for Axanar 25 years ago and decided to produce it as a feature film after his experience with Star Trek: New Voyages."
Unfortunately for Peters, the success of his crowdfunding campaign and the growing visibility of his production brought obvious scrutiny from Paramount/CBS officials who filed suit. This set the stage for an ongoing legal battle between both parties.
Fan films alone are an interesting topic. Carlos calls his time working on various Star Trek fan films projects as his "film school." Actors, writers, directors spend hours of their time and money creating mini-storylines or off-shoots of their favorite series and characters. Most of the time, the big studios look the other way as there is no competition and no financial reward for the projects. What happens when these films get too big? Listen to find out!

Calum Chase is the author of The Economic Singularity: Artifical Intelligence and the Death of Capitalism and Surviving AI: The Promise and Peril of Artificial Intelligence. He joined the show to discuss another aspect of the rise of automated technology besides the peril of the human race and that is the peril of the human social structure. What will humans do when all the jobs become automated? Will the Earth become a utopia where robots perform daily tasks ans humans live lives of leisure or will millions of jobs be suddenly lost and only the few will have money for basic goods? These are difficult question to answer and we were lucky to have Mr. Chase join us on today's show.

Savanna and I talk about "super humans" or regular humans who seem to know how to tap into "super" abillities. Wim Hof comes to mind and we talk about how he discovered his ability to activate his immune system and to raise his core temperature all from breathing techniques. Mike Stojic shows up a bit late from celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday with his friend. This will be the first part of a two part series.

John Taylor, our very own expert in everything crime comes in for our Halloween episode to discuss America's creepiest serial killers. We start off with everyone's favorite killer clown, John Wayne Gacy. I figured since clowns are en vogue we'd have a good talk. We also discuss the strange case of HH Holmes. the builder of what was known as the "Murder Castle." And then, in Wait What If fashion, we end the show with a discussion of are ghosts real, time travel, the Fermi Paradox, free will and whatever else completely unrelated to the topic!
John Taylor has become a crucial member of the WWI Podcast team and we hope to hear more of him in up coming shows. Check out his books on Amazon and be sure to listen to his own podcast over at TwistedPodcast.com!

WWI #45: LIVE from the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew!
Friday Oct 21, 2016
Friday Oct 21, 2016
So, I like to consider myself prepared for emergencies. I'm by no means a "prepper" but I do have some provisions set aside in case there is an emergency. Well, Hurricane Matthew came roaring into town and hit us much harder than I anticipated. We had record flooding in most of the major rivers and streams that run through our neighborhoods. I was unable to make it into work due to washed out roadways. Our water supply was interrupted for the weekend. Now, I understand that this was totally a "first world" disaster. In fact, the hardships we endured for just a weekend, are a daily reality for many folks around the world.
