John Taylor is an all around great interview. His knowledge on crime and the criminal justice system is second to none. He has written two books on the subject:
John returns for his second visit to the show to discuss Netflix's successful true crime series Making a Murderer and HBO's series The Jinx. He also shares his knowledge of DNA evidence and how it may not be as cut and dry as it seems. We had a lot of laughs making this show and it is easily one of my favorite shows of the year! I'm planning on having John again real soon!

Matt is an interesting guy who sees the world through kaleidoscope lenses. He shirked the ordinary to pursue a life of enlightenment and service to his fellow man. He's a life long student of zen meditation and martial arts. He joined me for a discussion about studying Kung Fu with Shaolin Monks in China, meditating with zen masters in Nepal and coming awfully close to his demise while trekking the base camp of Everest. He coaches athletes on visualization and meditation and is the author of Zen Athlete: The Secrets to Achieving Your Highest Potential.

Originally this episode was put together on short notice to experiment with adding a video aspect to the show. I got some booze and pulled out some random questions just to see what type of interesting soundbites I could get out of the crew. This was one of the hardest episodes to edit because it was all over the place! I had to perform some editing magic to make it somewhat coherent! All in all, I think it came out good and it made for some interesting conversation. Take a listen! And check out my new videos on YouTube! We're going to be doing a lot more with video coming up... so stay tuned!

WWI #30: The Apocalypse Show! Where, when and how wil it happen???
Saturday Mar 26, 2016
Saturday Mar 26, 2016
Moses and Savanna come over to discuss their thoughts on how the world may someday end. Will we go out with a whimper or with a bang? Or will we even see it happen in our lifetime? Society is obsessed with the apocalypse for many reasons. First and foremost, it's a great evolutionary fear. We are put on this earth for perpetuation of the species and this means self-preservation at all costs. The apocalypse threatens to take this all away and Hollywood knows this sells tickets to blockbusters.

Mike came over last night with a nice bottle of whiskey to talk about his recent trip to the Dominican Republic with Rotary International se we went out on the back porch and hit "record". He shares his experiences fixing one room/dirt floor homes in some of the most impoverished areas of the island nation. This of course leads us to discuss the stark differences in ideas of wealth and poverty between the 1st and 3rd worlds. Why do some of the oldest know civilizations in the world look like the setting of an apocalyptic movie? Why is the United States, a relatively new nation in the vast scheme of things, so well established with solid infrastructure and wealth (remember wealth is comparatively different for each society). We also go off on our usual tangents of working out (is crossfit good or bad), whiskey, cigars in the Dominican, the status of Mike's new bar here in Clayton, NC, and we even delve into Genghis Khan!
I hope you enjoyed this off-the-cuff live feel episode... in other words, I didn't feel like editing ; )

Mr. Mark Garrison, a Warrant Officer in the US Army during the Vietnam War and author of "Guts N' Gunships: What it was Really Like to Fly Combat Helicopters in Vietnam" shares some of his experiences with us in today's show. Running out of college money during the mid-1960s meant he had little choice but to sign up for the Army before the Army came and got him anyways. He refused to run for the border and wanted to somewhat control his destiny, therefore he volunteered under the promise that he would become a pilot. As the sleeve of his book explains:
"Straight from college, to the US Army, to command pilot of a four ton gunship with a four man crew in Vietnam. From college chess games to a game of life and death. It was surreal to say the least. In this book I pour my heart out and bare my soul to tell you what that was like, from basic to Vietnam and back."
I hope you enjoy this show. It was an honor to have Mr. Garrison as a part of the WWIPodcast experience.

*Note* I've inserted hyperlinks to define various terms and concepts we discuss in this episode.
Mike and I had a telephone conversation with Joe Hollis of mountaingardensherbs.com. Joe is an amateur ethnobotanist who lives on 4 acres of land in Western North Carolina and caters his Joe came of age during the Vietnam War. He spent the later part of the 1960s living in Borneo with the Peace Corp. His experiences with the river people brought him to seek peace and oneness with Gaia (mother earth). He felt that a major force of destruction, war, turmoil and suffering was due to an imbalance with civilization and Gaia. As such, he took up "refuge" in his Mountain Garden in NC back in 1973 and has been cultivating his Paradise Garden ever since.
This is the first episode in a series of interviews with folks who came of age in the turbulent 1960's. Stay Tuned to the next episode in this particular series when I interview Vietnam helicopter Pilot Mark "Pigpen" Garrison.

This is our first LIVE Periscope unedited show (which saves me lots of time in the editing room). We got together tonight to talk about everything future tech from trees that filter CO2, plants that are hard wired to the net and cars that drive themselves. We had a lot of fun with this episode! Oh, and our new *explicit* tag means I don't need that damn "beep" button. Savanna (@savysteele) christens the show with it's first F-bomb! Well done ; )
